There seem to be quite a few people bemoaning the fact that it's apparently hard to find a unicorn, single or married, willing to play with them in a threeway. We've been in the lifestyle since 1989 and there really was no such animal as a single, male or female, in the lifestyle back then (at least in the area where we started swinging) so we're genuinely curious.
My question is, is it that hard to find a female to have a threeway with in the vanilla world? I've heard a number of people claim that it's not all that hard, assuming you're reasonably attractive, nice, not crazy (lol), etc., to go to a bar and, with a little bit of effort, pick up a lady willing to play for the evening.
Is this untrue or an urban legend? If not, are there characteristics of your average girl in a bar that are different than, say, a unicorn or any swinger woman willing to play separately from her partner? Or is looking for unicorns on a swingsite somehow easier or in some way preferable to picking up a girl in a bar? Or is it simply another resource to use to find a willing woman?

We've only played with a single female through the vanilla world. The Mrs had a friend that hung out with us regularly and it just developed over time into a FWB situation. Since then it's been a lot more difficult for us to find, but we are both pretty shy and reserved so we don't put ourselves out there as much either. Probably more our own fault than anything.
