We have always had adopted members of our family who are cats or dogs. We currently live with three cats and two large dogs. All animal cohabitants have mostly been rescues. Cats are really independent and seem to want more autonomy. Dogs however, like to go with you, as often as possible. Most dogs like to see other dogs and their people, and seem to make closer deeper friendships with some of their canine and human acquaintances. Every neighborhood seems to have an official dog park, or unofficial dog hang out or two where dogs and dog people meet. We are kind of hippy granola sorts, and we have found that we seem to share a lot in common with dog owners who like to get out with their dogs. If you are wondering yes, yes, we always clean up after our dogs. I was in line at Smiths talking with a woman a couple of weeks ago and when I reached into my back pocket to get my wallet an unused poop bag came out. She pulled one out of her front pocket and laughed a bit and said you just became a bit more interesting. I spend about 12 hours a week hiking around with the pups. Mrs. Delicious just a bit less.

What's your experience? Do any of you belong to a furry friend or two?

Both great breeds! Our pups are mutts. One is mostly golden retriever, some poodle and something tall and sweet, and a healthy weight to height proportionate 99 pounds. I am 6'2" tall and I have to bend my elbow to pet the top of her head when I am standing up. We also have a rescue from a Native American reservation that is a total mutt. Some kind of herding dog breed and some kind of tenacious terrier is in his ancestry and who knows what else. He is a healthy 88 pounds of pooch. They are both longer fur dogs that can be trimmed. With longer coats in the winter they look like Muppets.
We Foster dogs every now and then and we Love our Fur kids...
We have 4 dogs. One rides with the Mrs on her truck. They are our kids. They won't let us have a bad day. We also foster. Very rewarding.
We have a Black Lab/Aussi Shepherd mix. Rescued him as a pup. He's part of the family and is a consideration when we make plans.
I'm the owner of an American Pit-bull Terrier. It was my Daughters(who lives with her Mother) puppy up to 10 months old...then it happened...Dad, the mobile home park wont let us have this breed, so will you take her just for overnight ...Yeah right = I've had this sweet companion now for 3 yrs :)
