He was absolutely brilliant. It's amazing how much life he was able to live, and for how long, even after being given a death sentence by the doctors.
It also blows my mind how many stupid people online are bemoaning the fact that he was an atheist. It's like, do they honestly think that a kind, just, loving God (who they supposedly believe in) would look at Hawking and go, "well Stephen, you spent your entire life searching for the meaning behind everything. You made of yourself the best that you possibly could. But, you didn't believe in me. So, off to hell you go!" Fucking retards.

Well said. And yes, I've been saddened and amazed to read some of the asinine comments online. The most common ones being, "Well, I guess he believes in God now." or "I wonder what he's saying now?" He's not saying anything because he's dead...and/or they don't have the right kind of adapter in the afterlife for his speech synthesizer. ;-)

Btw, since it was London time. Professor Hawking actually died on Pi Day (the holy holiday for the mathematically inclined) as well as 139 years, to the day, after Albert Einstein was born…and he was born 300 years, to the day, after Galileo died. Rather fitting bookends to a remarkable life.
